Participate in Our Listening Study for Children

We are currently recruiting research participants to help us better understand how lip reading helps children understand speech. Some children who are hard of hearing benefit a lot from lipreading cues. We are trying to learn which factors affect a child’s ability to benefit from lipreading cues.

Who can participate?

  • Children ages 7 to 12 years old
  • Children with normal hearing or bilateral mild-severe hearing levels
  • Children who primarily speak English
  • Children with normal or corrected-to-normal vision

Study Requirements

  • Visits take place at Boys Town National Research Hospital (555 N 30th St).
  • The study typically takes around 3 or 4 hours to complete and can be split into multiple visits. The whole study takes around 4 hours to complete but can be broken down into smaller parts if needed.
  • Participants may be given tests to see how well they can see, hear, and how they say words. If your child wears hearing aids, we may check how they function. Participants may also be asked to listen to words and sentences and then repeat what they hear.
  • Parents and caregivers are asked to answer background questions about their child.

Compensation

Research participants will be compensated $20 per hour.
