Vocal Development Landmarks Interview (VDLI)

Software developed by Raj Persaud for Dr. Sophie Ambrose

The Problem:

Identifying children at risk for speech and language delays as early as possible is essential in order to tailor interventions and maximize developmental outcomes. To accomplish this, the researcher requested an iPad application that Speech and Language Pathologists (SLPs) can use in parents' homes to assess and provide real time feedback on young children's vocalizations.

The Solution:

Our engineer created an iOS app to play a series of .wav files of baby and toddler sounds. Parents respond yes/no if their child makes similar sounds. The VDLI app collects each response and calculates a score. The response data can also be uploaded to Boys Town's REDCap server for further analysis.
