The Craniofacial Team at Boys Town National Research Hospital offers coordinated interdisciplinary care for a wide range of craniofacial anomalies in a family-friendly environment.
The craniofacial center provides comprehensive care for children and treats conditions such as:
Cleft lip and palate
- Nasal speech caused by Velopharyngeal insufficiency
- Genetic syndromes
- Ear deformities with or without hearing loss
- Facial asymmetry
The multidisciplinary team meets to evaluate patients and develop an individualized, coordinated and integrated treatment plan for each patient. The team can help patients and their families with all aspects of reconstructive surgery and post-op care related to their conditions.
The team provides care from infancy to young adulthood as many craniofacial conditions require attention over time to changing issues related to growth and development. During a new patient evaluation, as much time as needed is spent with the family so no questions are left unanswered. During follow up visits, the craniofacial surgeon - along with other team members - reassess where the patient is now and what the plan is for future medical interventions to help achieve optimal appearance and function.
The Craniofacial Care Team consists of specialists from:
- Pediatric plastic and craniofacial surgery
- Pediatric otolaryngology (ENT)
- Developmental and behavioral pediatrician
- Oral and maxillofacial surgery
- Pediatric dentistry
- Speech pathology
- Nutritionist (by referral)
- Pediatric neuropsychology (by referral)
- Occupational therapy (by referral)
