Boys Town Pediatrics Teaches Kids How to Prevent the Spread of Viruses
Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) has been spreading across the country, nearly surrounding the state of Nebraska.
"It’s coming," said Micah Ryan, M.D., pediatrician at Boys Town Pediatrics, of the current viral strand of EV-D68. "This particular strain of enterovirus, this D68, is one that is making people quite sick. We’re seeing the breathing issues – lots of wheezing, lots of strong coughs. It’s getting kids sick enough where they’re getting admitted, not only to the hospital, but even to the intensive care unit."
On Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, Dr. Ryan visited Small Miracles Child Care in Omaha, Neb., to teach kids the importance of proper hygiene and how they can prevent the spread of germs and stay well this influenza season.
Footage of Dr. Ryan’s visit is available for media use.

"By taking preventive measures and teaching children proper hand washing and coughing techniques, we hope to decrease the spread of germs and keep kids healthy this cold and flu season," said Dr. Ryan.
