Hearing & Balance Testing and Treatment

​​​​Boys Town National Research Hospital is known ​world-wide as a center of excellence for research and clinical care related to the diagnosis of hearing and balance disorders. Our researchers have created several diagnostic hearing & balance tests for every age and developmental level to identify the degree, configuration and type of hearing loss. These programs have been adopted and modeled across the country--advancing medical care for children and adults with audiologic (hearing) ​& ​and balance disorders.

B​oys Town Hearing & Balance services include:

  • Balance and vestibular evaluations
  • Hearing evaluations for infants, children and adults
  • Hearing aid dispensing
  • Assistive listening devices

Types of Tests We Use to Evaluate Hearing in Children & Adults

  • Pure tone threshold testing
  • Speech threshold testing
  • Word and sentence recognition testing in quiet and in noise
  • Middle ear function testing including tympanometry and acoustic reflex thresholds
  • Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emission testing (DPOAE)
