Loaner hearing aid program

​​Dedicated to the needs of children with communication disorders, Boys Town National Research Hospital created a Loaner Hearing Aid Program for children in 1980. Due to the cost of hearing aids and the financial constraints they place on many families, initial efforts to aid a child with a newly-identified hearing loss are often delayed. Studies have shown that children who are fit with amplification within the first 3-9 months of life develop better speech and language skills than children who are fitted later. 

The primary goal of the program is to provide temporary hearing aids as quickly as possible to infants and children after they are identified with hearing loss. This program also provides hearing aids on a temporary basis when a child's own hearing aids are lost or being repaired.​​​
