Behavioral Health Services

Boys Town National Research Hospital is changing the lives of children ages 5 to 18 who have severe behavioral and mental health problems through proven medically-directed treatment programs. Our behavioral health programs and Residential Treatment Center are part of the nationally recognized Boys Town integrated system of child and family services. Our goal is to help children gain the self-assurance and academic and social skills to succeed in life.

Our behavioral health programs provide residential treatment that is secure, safe and medically directed. Located in Omaha, Nebraska, we offer highly effective treatment services for children and adolescents from across the globe. Our program, rich in over 90 years of experience, continues to be rooted in Father Flanagan’s belief in the potential of all children to succeed.

For families struggling with a child or adolescent who is experiencing severe behavior problems, or attempts in working with mental health providers in the past have failed, Boys Town Residential Treatment Center is here to help.

Addressing Common Behavioral Problems

Common behavioral problems for children admitted to the Residential Treatment Center include histories of aggression, self-injury and police or court involvement. The facilities and services available at Boys Town offer full-time supervision in a secure and safe environment.

Treatment Plan

Boys Town’s behavioral health treatment plan is based upon our nationally recognized Psycho-Educational Treatment Model (PEM) is the foundation of treatment. This approach requires a low tolerance for inappropriate behaviors coupled with high warmth and praise for appropriate behaviors. It’s a self-help model. It is not a control model. It is a youth empowerment model. And it works!
