In this study, subjects with normal hearing and sensorineural hearing loss will be asked to detect tone or noise signals in the presence of background noise, presented simultaneously with the signals or before the signals. As part of the first session, subjects will receive a standard hearing test to confirm Normal Hearing or a certain type of hearing loss. The proposed studies will provide a measure of auditory nonlinearity that we can relate to growth of loudness with sound intensity, which is also thought to reflect auditory nonlinearity.
You may be eligible for this study if you:
- Are between 19 and 55 years of age.
- Have normal hearing.
- Can participate in multiple 2 hour sessions.
Participants will receive $12 per hour at the end of each session and an additional $3 per hour when a study is completed.
If you are interested in participating please contact David Raybine at David.Raybine@boystown.org or (402) 498-6559.
