Boys Town National Research Hospital is currently seeking studies on the safety and effectiveness of medications and treatments for asthma, rhinitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and related respiratory disorders; ear, nose and throat diseases and disorders; pediatric gastroenterology, and vaccinations in both children and adults. Current studies include:

Childhood Ear Infection Clinical Study

A current study is being conducted on childhood ear infections and the impact they have on
families. Participating families will receive a $25 gift card upon receipt of the survey by the
American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. You may be eligible for this
study if:

  • Your child is between 6-24 months of age and
  • You are will and able to complete a 20-30 minute questionnaire.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

A current study is being conducted on the safety and effectiveness of an investigational
medication for COPD. To qualify for the study you must be:

  • Over 40 years of age,
  • Have a history of smoking for more than 10 years and
  • Be diagnosed with moderate to severe COPD

Severe Asthma (Pediatric and Adult)

To qualify for the study you must be:

  • 18-75 years of age,
  • Medically diagnosed with asthma for at least 5 years,
  • Received diagnosis before age 40 and
  • Currently on high dose treatment for control of symptoms

Sublingual Therapy for Ragweed Allergy

This study evaluates the use of a sublingual tablet to develop tolerance to ragweed, instead of using allergy shots or symptomatic treatment. To qualify for the study you must be:

  • 18-50 years of age,
  • Documented allergy to Ragweed for at least 2 years,
  • Received treatment during the last year and
  • NOT receiving injectable immunotherapy (allergy shots) for the last 5 years
