Reggio Emilia Inquiry Circle

Reggio Emilia Inquiry Circle

Honoring the Senses: Hearing & Seeing the Voices, Hands, and Hearts of Children Through Documentation

Boys Town National Research Hospital invites early childhood educators and/or specialists working with children who have hearing loss to join a conversation focused on learning about the internationally known Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. Dr. Carolyn Edwards will facilitate six informal inquiry circles centered around using evidence collected by teachers (“documentation”) as a means to promote reflective practice in early childhood education.

*In a learning circle (or inquiry circle), a small group of teachers share their pictures and observations of their classroom explorations based on children’s interests. They ask one another questions, share ideas and offer possibilities on how to expand the concepts that surface. A facilitator assists the discussion to promote the cycle of observing, reflecting, and responding. Please added in a new sentence that is on the flyer.

Carolyn Pope Edwards, Ed.D., is a Willa Cather Professor of Psychology and Child, Youth, and Family Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is an internationally recognized scholar on child development in cultural context and on the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. She conducts research seeking to evaluate and improve the quality of children’s services and to strengthen parent-child relationships to promote school readiness.
