Externs will receive in-depth experiences in diagnostic audiology and amplification for pediatric and adult patients, evoked potentials, vestibular testing, newborn hearing screening, and cochlear implants.


Clinical 4th Year AuD Externship Program

The Center for Audiology and Vestibular Services at Boys Town National Research Hospital offers a 12-month full-time 4th Year AuD Externship position. Students accepted into this externship position can expect in-depth experiences in diagnostic audiology for pediatrics through adults, adult and pediatric amplification, evoked potentials, vestibular testing and CRP maneuvers, as well as universal newborn hearing screening. They also will be provided exposure to vestibular rehabilitation, pediatric habilitation and cochlear implants.

The following is a summary of the program details:

  • Initial contact with Boys Town Hospital should come from a designated university official on behalf of interested students. All negotiations will occur between the university and Boys Town Hospital.
  • Following initial contacts, applications will be accepted during the fall of each year for placement in June of the following year. Applications must be received by November 1st.
  • Applications must include a letter of interest from the student, a resume and 2 letters of recommendation from clinical faculty. These can be sent via email, fax or US mail.
  • The 4th year externship will be a 12-month placement beginning June 1st.
  • Students will receive a monthly stipend. Students will be expected to have health and liability insurance through their university and will receive no medical, dental or liability benefits from Boys Town Hospital.
  • Students must have completed the national praxis examination prior to the beginning of the externship, making them eligible for provisional state licensure in Nebraska.
  • Prior to beginning a placement, a letter of agreement between Boys Town Hospital and the university will be completed.

Graduate Clinical Placement

The Center for Audiology and Vestibular Services at Boys Town National Research Hospital offers a limited number of short-term graduate clinical placements from accredited programs.

To be eligible for a clinical placement, graduate students in Audiology must have completed at least 2 semesters of graduate coursework. Initial contact with Boys Town Hospital must come from a designated university official, such as a clinical placement coordinator, on behalf of interested students. All negotiations will occur between the university and Boys Town Hospital.
