Eagle Scout Donates Toys for Children at Boys Town National Research Hospital

Boys Town National Research Hospital received a special gift of games and toys from long-time audiology patient, CJ Summers, as a project to earn his Eagle Scout Award.

CJ has been an audiology patient at Boys Town National Research Hospital since he was 3 years old. Now, at the age of 18, he is giving back to a place that has helped him through the years. CJ remembers playing with toys while getting his hearing tested and that these toys made it a little easier to come back to the Hospital for further testing.

CJ personally raised over $800.00 to purchase new toys and games for children in the Audiology and Cochlear Implant programs at Boys Town National Research Hospital. “CJ directed friends and other boy scouts while shopping for specific games and toys to purchase with the funds.  He was focused on toys that would be beneficial for hearing test situations,” said Leisha Eiten, CJ’s Audiologist. Some of the donated items include Connect 4, UNO, stuffed animals and quiet toys for the Audiology and Cochlear Implant sound booth areas.

“The donation of games and toys will make the hearing sound booths more inviting for children who are seen at the Hospital,” said Patrick E. Brookhouser, MD, Director of Boys Town National Research Hospital. “The sound booths can be a little intimidating for children and CJ has done a tremendous job in finding games for all ages and levels, which will help create a more comfortable environment for our young patients.”

CJ has fluctuating hearing loss, which means his hearing has changed frequently over the years. He has had over 100 hearing tests at the Hospital and several surgeries to help remedy the hearing loss.
